Control | Marks Left By Body Magic | Ardyss Body Magic Contol Garment (by zerbetron)
this series of images depicts the affects of various contol garments on the body. Contol garments are marketed to overweight men and women to “reshape” their bodies and aid them in weight loss. By highlighting the affects of these harsh garments on the flesh, I’m hoping to shed light on the body policing and control sold to us as a form of health and beauty.
These marks were left by the Ardyss Body Magic. This garment is marketed men and women to reshape and reform their bodies. Quoted directly from their website:
“With Ardyss Girdles, you can look like you’ve lost 2-3 dress sizes in just a matter of minutes – 10 minutes or less, to be exact. Dubbed by majority of its users as “Body Magic”, Ardyss Girdles are the safe, painless, effortless way to look slimmer right away, and to look good and feel good about yourself in an instant.”
I feel these images adaquately demonstrate just how “safe” and “painless” that process really is.
Some of the pictures they do look harsh, but they also seem like they wouldn’t stay or bruise the person. This garment or whatever is to shape your body it’s going to leave marks or be tight. It also could’ve been caused by a miss sizing, my bra can put the same marks on me but I’m not going to bring awareness to bras leaving marks on our bodies. Beauty is pain.
Kind of agree with both…
”Beauty is pain.”
I if you don’t understand why this is alienating, counter-intuitive, painful, shameful, and wrong…then you missed the point of the work.
The fact these garments have NO MEDICAL or beneficial reason for existing other than a purely physically aesthetic reason is more than enough reason to bring “awareness” about the real TRAUMA these types of garments can cause. I’m not attacking people for wearing them…I’m attacking companies for selling them under the guise that they are somehow beneficial and safe.
I’m trying to combat the paradigm that fatness cannot be beautiful, so it must be hidden, shoved, contorted and forced into something as damaging as a control garment.
I couldn’t afford any of these garments when I was in high school. Instead, I used bandages, Saran-wrap, bandaging tape,...
